New Delhi, July 10: The Liberhan Commission today pulled up the Uttar Pradesh government for not being prepared to commence arguments and for seeking more time on the ground that it needed copies of some more evidence, including audio-video cassettes relating to the demolition of disputed structure in Ayodhya in 1992.
New Delhi, July 10: The Liberhan Commission today
pulled up the Uttar Pradesh government for not being prepared
to commence arguments and for seeking more time on the ground
that it needed copies of some more evidence, including
audio-video cassettes relating to the demolition of disputed
structure in Ayodhya in 1992.
Irked by the Uttar Pradesh Advocate General (AG) Satish
Chandra Mishra's application seeking adjournment, chairman of
the commission, Justice M S Liberhan observed "it was very
unfair on the part of the AG ... When for the past six months
I have been requesting everybody to have the copies of the
evidence".
Seeking adjournment, the AG said to make his submissions,
he needed some more evidence, including the audio-video
cassettes, prepared by the CBI and filed before the
commission.
The commission clarified that no audio-video cassettes
was supplied by the CBI and those prepared by some private TV
companies were given to it by the Uttar Pradesh government.
On the repeated request of the AG, the commission accepted his plea and fixed July 24 and 25 to hear the arguments on behalf of the state government.
Mishra told the commission that there was no intention to delay the proceedings and the role of the state government was clear, i.e neutral.
"We are here to assist the inquiry," he said. Bureau Report
