New Delhi, Dec 08: Supreme Court will hear today a bail petition filed by former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal, who are in judicial custody in connection with disproportionate assets cases filed against them by the Punjab government.
When counsel for the petitioners, Senior Advocate Harish Salve mentioned the special leave petition filed by the father and son challenging a Ropar Court order, a bench comprising Justice S Rajendra Babu and Justice G P Mathur directed listing of the matter before an appropriate bench today. The petitioners have filed another petition seeking transfer of the trial of the corruption case against them from the state of Punjab to any other neighbouring state alleging that Punjab Chief Minister Amrinder Singh has launched a "personal and political vendetta" against them.
They said that the Ropar Court erred in sending them to judicial custody as they had totally cooperated with the investigation which have been concluded and chargesheet filed.
Claiming close nexus between the complainant and the Chief Minister, the petitioners said, "The entire story put forth in the FIR is based upon the whims and fancies of the complainant who has filed the complaint only at the instance of the Chief Minister and it is a virtual copy of his letter to Badal which is the subject matter of the defamation proceedings against Amrinder Singh."
