would "religiously and vigorously" observe unilateral
ceasefire along the line of control (LoC) from Eid day as
announced by Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali and
claimed that it has played a role in bringing down
infiltration of militants into Jammu and Kashmir.
Jamali's announcement of unilateral ceasefire along
the LoC and other proposals to normalise relations with India
was handed over Indian Deputy High Commissioner T C A
Raghavan.
Raghavan was called to the Foreign Office and handed over the proposals.
Responding to observations made by a senior Indian general in Srinagar yesterday that the level of infiltration of militants to J and K has come down because of the vigil maintained by the Indian troops, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan told reporters that "we have also played our part. They do not recognise it."
He said, "come Eid, our troops are going to observe the ceasefire announced by our Prime Minister religiously and vigorously."
Besides offering unilateral ceasefire, Jamali expressed Pakistan's desire to hold talks with New Delhi to improve transport links. India's proposal to run a bus service between Srinagar and Muzafarabad was also mentioned.
