Mumbai: Akshay Kumar will have a bigger role to play in the film’s marketing strategy as the mega-budget flick starring megastar Rajinikanth will be released globally in Tamil as well as Hindi.
Since Akshay has a pan-India appeal, the makers are reportedly trying to cash in on the Khiladi’s stardom to promote the film in North India but for people in south India, Rajini is a phenomenon.
According to a report in DNA, ‘2.0’ will be promoted as a two-hero film in order to reach out to the audiences across the country.
“The thing is, the producers of 2.0 hope to sell the film to the Hindi belt on the basis of AK’s presence there. For all his iconic status, Rajini’s films don’t work in North India. With Akshay Kumar playing the villain against Rajnikanth, the makers of 2.0 hope to make a killing in both the Hindi and non-Hindi markets. Hence the film will be marketed as a two-hero film all across the country,” DNA quoted a source as saying.
Directed by Shankar, the film has Academy Award winning composer AR Rahman for the film’s music. British beauty Amy Jackson is the main female lead in the 3D film which is slated to release on Diwali next year.
