Guwahati, Aug 08: The opposition sponsored no confidence motion in the Assam assembly against the Tarun Gogoi led Congress government was today defeated through a voice vote even as both the opposition and treasury benches traded charges against each other. Speaking during the motion, the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi painted a positive picture of Assam's development and asserted that all indices of development as well as flow of central funds has been better than the previous AGP regime.
He asserted that be it rural work or rural roads, the flow of funds have been better and the government has been using the funds from the planning commission gainfully.

Gogoi rejected the allegation by the opposition that his government was promoting corruption. ''Most of our work have been above the board because of which fast development can be seen everywhere. Let us not rely on government indices. Look at the soaring price of land at Guwahati. That is the basic indice of development,'' he said.
Gogoi said that because of simpler rules and vigorous pressure, tax revenues had gone up by 50 per cent giving a new thrust to the state's economy. Bureau Report
