DK to protest against reservation for economically backward
Chennai, Oct 11: The Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) has decided to organise demonstrations in front of Central government offices in all the district headquarters of Tamil Nadu on October 17, demanding reservation in the private sector and opposing it for the Economically Backward Classes of people.

"It is not that easy to amend the constitution for the purpose of introducing economic criteria. There should be a majority in the Lok Sabha and more than 50 per cent of the states in the country should ratify such an amendment,” DK general secretary, K Veeramani said in a statement here.
The recent decision of the central cabinet to accord reservation for the Economically Backward Classes, not covered by the existing reservation policy, was with an eye on the assembly elections in five state, he said, adding that the decision was nothing but 'vote bank politics'.

Since many public sector units were now being handed over to the private sector, there should be reservation even in the private sector, he said.
