New Delhi, July 09: Top amateur Manav Das led the field with a three-under 69 on the first day of the season opening Jaypee Open Amateur Golf Championship at Greater Noida near here yesterday.
The four-day IGU categorised championship, being played at the Greg Norman designed 18-hole Jaypee Greens Golf Resort, saw Girish Virk trail Das by one stroke.
Current number one Keshav Mishra and Asian Games gold winner Shiv Kapur were tied at the third place with a score of one under 71.
Das looked in good touch, starting his day with a birdie. He also saved a stroke on the fourth, eleventh and 18th hole.
Virk also made a promising start with birdies on the first, fourth, sixth and 18th hole. But bogeys on 11th and 16th saw him slip to the second spot.



Other golfers carding level par scores were Simerjit Singh, Shaurya Singh, Vikrant Chopra, Mandeo Pathania, Aparup Saikia and Ashu Malik.
