New Delhi, Feb 28: Miffed over the controversy surrounding the
Memorendum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the cricket boards
of India and Pakistan, BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya today said the
entire issue has been blown out of proprotion.
''I am surprised at this unwanted hype on the MoU'' Dalmiya told
mediapersons here this afternoon.
''Let me tell you, this signing of MoU between the two boards is
new phenomenon, there were no such MoU earlier'' he said and added
''This MoU contains host of clauses which include commercial,
technical and general issues. In fact it is a bundle of reciprocal
clauses and a one clause says that in case the Indian team cuts
short its tour due to security reasons or disturbances, BCCI will not
be liable to pay any compensation to PCB''.
''So what is the big deal about this MoU. We never said that we
will call off the tour'' he added and urged the media and 'others'
to close this chapter.
''These clauses do find place in such type of MoU. Let us not
rake up unnecessary controversy on non-issues'', he said.
Dalmiya also expressed his displeasure over another controversy about the timing of his press conference to announce the dates and venues for the tour.
Media reports from across the border had suggested that PCB and BCCI had decided to hold the media briefing on this issue at the same time but the Indian board chief jumped the gun.
''I am surprised to read this in the papers. Why should i jump the gun'' he said ''I just can't go on telling every body that what has been written is not correct''.
