Valencia, Nov 02: World champion Valentino Rossi takes pole position for the final MotoGP race of the season.
World champion Valentino Rossi will be on pole for the final race of the MotoGP season, and possibly his last for Honda, after setting a track record in qualifying for the Valencia Grand Prix on Saturday (November 1). The Italian, sporting a new livery inspired by the Austin Powers films, left his best until last and roared around the Ricardo Tormo circuit in one minute 32.478 seconds on his final lap to break Max Biaggi's 2002 pole record of 1:33.211, giving the crowd a little wave by way of celebration. Rossi, who has never won at any level on the circuit, explained that he had two special sets of qualifying tyres available as he did not use any on Friday. He said that the first set were good but the team decided to use the second just seconds before the chequered flag was shown to end the session.

"And the first one was already good and was 32.8, but we try for the second one, we cut right before the flag, and I very well use 100 percent of this qualification tyre, and it is possible to make this fantastic time," he told reporters at the end of the session.
