Patna, Oct 14: Taking important lessons from a CISF
jawan Namdeo gunning down his deputy commandant at Mumbai
airport in May, the para-military force has adopted an open
door policy to promote greater interaction between jawans and
senior officers to avoid recurrence of such incidents, CISF
Director General K M Singh said today.
"The Namdeo incident has definitely opened our eyes. Now,
we have adopted an open door policy where a jawan can easily
approach his seniors, even me, to narrate his grievances",
Singh told reporters here.
Admitting that CISF jawans particularly those posted at airports were working under stress, Singh lamented that the Namdeo incident was not properly reported by the media.
It was highlighted in the media that Namdeo had shot dead Deputy Commandant A Karanjkar on May 24 for not granting him leave. Actually Namdeo had returned from leave just four days prior to the incident, the CISF DG said.
Singh said steps were also being taken to look into housing and other problems of the jawans in different units across the country.
Asserting that there was no general dissatisfaction among the CISF jawans over their working conditions, Singh said, the Namdeo incident was an aberration.
