Kolkata, Aug 11: To fight the CPI-M in West Bengal, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today announced its tie up with Trinamool Congress saying that TC has the mass base and strength to lead an alliance against the Marxists. NCP's newly-appointed in-charge of West Bengal B B Dutta told newsmen here that the alliance between his party and TC was formalised after the recent talk between NCP general secretary Purno A Sangma and TC supremo Mamata Banerjee.
He said that Sangma had extensive talks with Banerjee during her recent visit to Delhi regarding the alliance.
Dutta said that his party had entered into alliance with TC with a purpose to defeat the CPI-M-led ruling Left Front. ''NCP feels that Trinamool Congress with its mass base, is capable of leading such an alliance to unseat the Marxists who pursued anti-people policies,” he said.
The NCP leader said that TC's tie up with BJP would not pose any problem to the alliance and added that both NCP and TC work jointly to fight the Marxists.
He also said that apart from West Bengal, NCP would also have alliance with TC in Tripura.
Meanwhile, TC general secretary Mukul Roy said since that party talked about fighting the CPI-M, ''We welcome them''. Bureau Report
