Hyderabad, June 08: Affirming that fight against corruption should begin at home, President A P J Abdul Kalam yesterday said a mother, father and teacher should help mould a child into a responsible citizen to root out the scourge.
Speaking at an interactive session during the release of “India-My Dream”, a lecture series by eminent scientists here, Kalam said corruption should be fought by one and all in all walks of life.
Narrating his experience during his earlier interactive sessions, Kalam recalled how a school girl in Orissa boldly told him that she would like to become a politician to fight corruption while her friends narrated that they wanted to become doctors, engineers or teachers. To a question on whether he ever dreamt of leading the country, Kalam, looking at Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who was sharing the dais, said, "It's all accidental," as the duo exchanged smiles.
Naidu has the credit of suggesting Kalam's name for President's post as NDA consensus candidate. Recalling his three-day tour of Bihar, Kalam said, "It was a great land where towering leaders of various religions like Buddha, Mahavir and many Sufis lived and if these islands of religions are connected it would pave way for development."
Earlier, Naidu after releasing the lecture series book, said there was no lack of resources "but what is needed is proper vision and strong will to implement it." Bureau Report
