Indianapolis, Oct 02: Jenson Button has joined the list of drivers rueing their lost chances at Sunday’s United States Grand Prix. The Brit had been in line to claim the first podium finish of his career, but, unfortunately his Honda engine blew, and left his stranded on the side of the track.
Button’s Indianapolis race looked set to offer him his first top three finish in Formula One ever, despite him having started 65 races already. However, it was not to be, and the Brit, who had led the race for 15 laps, has now admitted that he is both annoyed and frustrated to have been denied a strong finish by his BAR-Honda team’s poor reliability.
"It is annoying because I have been racing for four years now and I have had a few chances like that and they have all been taken away from me," Button told Sporting Life. "I have never been on the podium which is quite depressing. I am probably one of the only drivers on the grid who has not. It is a little bit like having a monkey on my back as every time I have easily been in a podium position something has happened. It's really annoying.”
"It felt all right to be leading the race for 15 laps but it wasn't long enough though. While I was leading I wasn't thinking 'win, win, win'. I wanted to be on the podium, I thought it was no point in thinking about the win because if I don't I'll only be depressed."
