Shillong, Oct 22: The Centre has sanctioned a special assistance of Rs three crore to improve the Jawharlal Nehru Sports complex in Meghalaya.
The sanction letter has already reached arrived after his meeting with the Central minister, state sports minister Paul Lyngdoh told reporters today.
The J N Sports complex, popularly known as polo ground, was damaged by the recent flashfloods in the city. The office of the Meghalaya Football Association was also damaged. Lyngdoh said he has already asked the state sports council to work on the betterment of the complex.
Asked on the follow-up action of his meeting with the Board of Control for Cricket in India officials for the affiliation to the state body, Lyngdoh said the process was being delayed as the present "defunct" Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) was being "revived" in conformity with the apex body's conditions.
The BCCI had specified two conditions - to earmark a specific ground for cricket and to have a state-level cricket association. While the first one was complied with, the Minister of State for Sports Byllikid Sangma was asked to look into the second one, Lyngdoh said. BCCI would also hold a training camp for budding cricketers here next month as the scheduled one on October 12 had to be postponed, he said.
Similarly, a camp for upcoming footballers would also be held in November-December as a follow-up of the visit of the Asian Football Confederation officials.
