New Delhi, Feb 04: The Election Commission on Wednesday told Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) and other poll officials to gear up to ensure free and fair Lok Sabha polls and stressed on preparation of correct electoral rolls. Addressing the CEOs, District Election Officers, polling and counting personnel from all states and Union Territories, Chief Election Commissioner JM Lyngdoh and his colleagues TS Krishna Murthy and BB Tandon said polling personnel would have to be fully prepared for this purpose.

They emphasised that all constituencies would use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for which adequate training and awareness programmes have to be started.

The day-long conference held in Nirvachan Sadan reviewed the revision process of electoral rolls and emphasised that the time schedule prescribed should be maintained in every respect and care taken to see that accurate rolls prepared.
The meeting discussed, among other things, material planning, requirement of polling personnel, Central paramilitary forces, setting up of helplines in urban areas for providing information to voters at the time of elections and timely transmission of election related data.

Wednesday's deliberations will be followed by a meeting between the three-member poll panel and the Union Home Secretary soon to discuss security requirements for the polls. Bureau Report
