Vandana smelling victory
Chennai, Aug 14: Vandana Agarwal of Kolkata is on the road to victory in the season-opening South India Ladies Open Golf Championship having an enviable cushion of 16 strokes atop the leaderboard with a round to spare.

At the end of the penultimate and third round today in the gold division open category, Vandana, who played par 72, tallied 220. She has also set her sight to claim the trophy in the handicap division, where she is tied at 211 with her statemate Renuka Philip.
In the senior division (for above 50 years of age) section, which concluded today, Renuka Philip won both the open and handicap titles, while Mala Raju (Chennai) won both the titles in the bronze division gross and handicap category.
Vandana is followed by Delhi golfers, Shalini Malick (236) and Anjali Chopra, a single handicapper at 237 and Mayali Talwar (239). Bhavana Shetty of Mysore and Pragya Mishra of Delhi were joint fourth with 240 each.
Vandana played steadily achieving four birdies on the 1st, 2nd, 7th and 16th but had bogies on the 5th, 8th, 10th and 17th holes for a par score of 72.

Delhi's Vaishavi Sinha was leading the pack of sub-junior with a total of 258.
Shalini Malick won the day's special honours having
landed closest to the pin on the 17th hole, while Tanya Sharma
of Secunderabad became the stableford winner.
