Gangtok, June 01: Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling has assured all the communities in the state of equal treatment and advised them not to fall prey to communal forces. Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of a Sanskrit Vidyalaya and inaugurating a Sivalaya Mandir at Ratomatey recently, the chief minister said equal treatment to all irrespective of their religious or ethnic identities was one of the foremost commitments of his government.
Urging them to stay away from communal politics, Chamling claimed that his government was treating every community on an equal footing.
Asking the Limboo and Tamang communities, accorded tribal status earlier this year, not to feel insecure about their political rights, he said the state government had already urged the centre to conduct a special census for them so that they could get seat reservation.
Safeguarding the religious, cultural and linguistic identity of every community in the state was a priority of the SDF government, he said adding that people should resist forces out to disturb the prevailing communal harmony in the state. Bureau Report
