Ahmedabad, June 23: The city police shot dead two members owing allegiance to the notorious Chhota Shakeel gang, in an early morning encounter here. Acting on a tip off from the Maharashtra Police, a trap was laid in the communally sensitive Panchkuva area of the walled city, and in the skirmishes that followed, the duo Mahendra Jadhav and Ganesh Kunde were gunned down. They were in the city to disrupt the forthcoming rath yatra of Lord Jagannath in the city on July 1, police said. Police also disclosed that Mahendra and Ganesh were also assigned the job of gunning down Gujarat Law Minister Ashok Bhatt and former minister Bharat Barot. Bureau Report
