Gangtok, Mar 09: Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has lauded the centre for according tribal status to two ethnic communities-Limbu and Tamang and said their seat reservation demand in the Assembly would take some more time.
Allaying the fear of Bhutia and the Lepcha communites of the state, Chamling said their 12 reserved seats in the 32-member Sikkim Assembly would not be disturbed. The Sikkim Limbu-Tamang Joint Action Committee (SLTJAC), however, had recently demanded seat reservation for their communities in the Assembly before the coming election. Sikkim goes to simultaneous polls to the 32-member Assembly and one MP seat on May 10.
''I am thankful to the union government for according the tribal status to the Limbu and the Tamang communities. However, the seat reservation in the assembly would take some more time and that cannot be done before the election'', Chamling told a group of visiting journalists recently. Chamling said his Sikkim Democratic Front(SDF) was certain of winning about 90 per cent seats in the coming election and added that some now faces would come as party candidates for the seventh assembly election.
The SDF is expected to release names of the party candidates within a few days' time.
He, however, made it clear that no relative of his family would come into politics ''Because I do not believe in nepotism''.
Referring to the party's election issues, Chamling said he would not float any issue but preferred to work together to make Sikkim a model state by 2015.
''I am proud to say that now the Sikkimese have merged with the mainstream of the country both emotionally and economically,'' said Chamling.

Asked about his stand about a partner of the NDA, he said, ''I have no link with the BJP. However, I am only a partner of the NDA,. what BJP does is not my business,'' he added.
