New Delhi, Nov 09: The Students Federation of India-All India Students' Federation retained its hold over the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union, whose election results were announced here today. Rohit and Parimal Maya Shankar of the combine were elected president and vice-president of the Union respectively, while Shamshad Ahmed and Eena Panda of the group won the posts of general secretary and joint secretary respectively defeating their nearest Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) rivals. While SFI is the students' wing of the CPI (M), AISF is affiliated to CPI.
JNUSU polls are considered a barometre of the country's political mood. A traditionally left bastion, the RSS-backed ABVP has of late emerged as a second contender pushing to the back extreme left Students's panels including that of the CPI (ML)-backed All India Students' Association.
