Kahaani had a very special element attached to the Bengali women, which Sujoy Ghosh impressively brought out. The protagonist (Vidya) avenged the death of her husband in the backdrop of Durga Puja. The atmosphere that showcased the festival of Mother Godess Durga was used symbolically in the film.

This romantic big screen adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhay’s namesake novel, was set in the Kolkata of 1950's. Pradeep Sarkar beautifully directed the classic film and added a new dimension to Bengal on celluloid.
