Siliguri, June 09: A bandh was observed in remote towns of Manebhanjan and Simana near Darjeeling today in protest of faulty phone lines for nearly three months, official sources said here. General manager of Siliguri telecom district Gautam Chakraborty described it as "unfortunate" but said the complaint was not lodged with the appropriate authority.
Chakraborty said that the fault was due to theft of over a kilometre of cable and the department was taking all measures to set things right at the earliest.
Shops and other business establishments, schools and offices remained closed in the area - about 35 km from Darjeeling town, they said.
