Tirupati, July 06: Vice president Bhairon Singh
Shekhawat today said his recent suggestion on holding
simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and assemblies together
in a fixed time every five year was positively received by
some political parties.
Talking to reporters at Tirumala, the abode of Lord
Venkateswara, he said the Telugu Desam party supremo and
Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the
Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav and the BJP
chief M Venkaiah Naidu had welcomed his proposal.
The media should bring his recent statement of 'radical
change in election mode' made at Indore to the grass root
levels so that the masses would know of it, he said.
Premature dissolution of legislatures and frequent
elections were causing huge financial burden to the exchequer,
he said.
Earlier, Shekhawat and his family members offered prayers
at the Lord Venkateswara temple at the hill shrine.
