New Delhi, July 06: CBI today said proceedings against
the Directorate Of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) official K S Bhatt
would be carried on and claimed that the agency had a fit case,
having laid a trap for him which was disputed by the DRI.
Stating that the agency had followed all procedures as it laid down a trap for the case, highly-placed CBI sources said the trap case details had been compiled and the agency would soon question Bhatt in this case.
The sources said Bhatt would have to do "some explaining" as to what he was doing on a Sunday with K Bhaskar, who is an accused in three cases of the DRI and also the complainant in the CBI case. The sources said the agency verified the claim of Bhaskar and also asked him to make a phone call to Bhatt in presence of two independent witnesses, who were non-Cbi and gazetted officers. During the conversation, the venue for the meeting was fixed at a posh restaurant by Bhaskar and Bhatt and the evidence would be produced in a court of law
CBI sources claimed that adequate checks and balances were replied upon before arresting the DRI official.
Bhatt was arrested by the CBI in Bangalore on June 30 for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs Two Lakh from Bhaskar, who is a Central Excise Inspector. He was later released on personal bailbond.
Bureau Report.
