Barcelona, June 13: MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi has arrived at one of his favourite tracks, near Barcelona, where he is looking to extend his championship lead. Rossi leads the MotoGP riders at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona for Sunday's (June 15) race. He leads the championship with 115 points from Max Biaggi with 83. Former world champion Kenny Roberts Junior will be absent from the race as he is receiving treatment for an injury in the United States, so only one Suzuki bike will be run in Spain. Japanese rider Akira Yanagawa will ride in the grand prix as a wild card entry.
In the last race, at Mugello in Italy, Rossi had to move up and overtake Loris Capirossi who was holding the lead on his Ducati. Rossi said on Thursday (June 12) that the Ducatis had been fast in March testing, while Rossi's Honda had struggled with traction so he was hoping the situation would be a little better when qualifying begins on Friday (June 13).
