Chennai, Nov 23: CHENNAI is replete with stories of musicians and singers who either made the city their home or were born here. Some of them chose the city to hold concerts. This music season, Sangeetham.com, an organisation working to promote Carnatic music, has planned four music heritage walks, which will cover the homes of great music personalities.
Between December 13 and 25, music lovers can look forward to a tour of Mylapore, Triplicane, George Town and Santhome. The walk will take music buffs past the houses of Musiri Subramanya Iyer, Madurai Mani Iyer, Dwaram Venkatasami Naidu, Vai. Mu. Kothainayaki Ammal and Subramania Bharati.
Venues of memorable performances will also feature on the list. Years ago, the Tiruvannamalai Matam hall in George Town witnessed a contest between Maha Vaidhyanatha Iyer and Madras Venu. `Madras Lalithangi', the home of M.L. Vasanthakumari's home, is also included. Those who wish to participate in the walk can e-mail sangeetham@sangeetham.com or contact 2841 1520.
The organisation will hold a Carnatic music quiz on December 14 at Chettinad Vidhyasharam. Interested participants will need to fill forms and the entry fee is Rs. 25. Every team will have three members and eight teams will be chosen as finalists. The quiz that is expected to last three hours will include multimedia and audio and visual clippings.
