Riyadh, May 17: The US embassy in Riyadh and consulates general in Dhahran and Jeddah resumed normal business today having been closed for four days following deadly attacks in the Saudi capital. "Services to American citizens will resume normal operations at all the three posts ... But mission children are not returning to school," a warden message said.
The embassy and the two consulates have, however, limited the processing of non-immigrant visas to "individuals requiring emergency travel to the United States." The message said embassy and consular non-emergency employees and their dependents, who are under ordered departure, were leaving the kingdom.
"Those remaining continue to have their movements restricted to essential travel only. The embassy and consulates plan to continue to provide the full range of consular services to the American community and the public," it said. The embassy and consulates closed on Tuesday following the previous day's triple suicide bombings that killed 34 people, including eight Americans.
The mission has strongly advised American citizens to use extreme caution and remain vigilant, to remain at home and to keep away from windows and doors. Bureau Report
