According to NDTV reports, cows were left to die after all 250 contractual workers went on strike since July 21, to protest against not receiving their salaries for the month of May and June. These workers were the caretakers of the cowshed and were also responsible for providing fodder to the cattle.

When the Anti-Corruption Bureau officials visited the country's biggest cowshed with other police officers, they found cows stuck in neck-deep dung and fodder that has turned slushy due to rainwater seepage.

“Bad planning turned the place into a quicksand of sorts. The cows died after being trapped for days on end without food and water,” said Bajrang Singh, additional superintendent of police of the anti-corruption bureau to the Hindustan Times.

After observing the miserable condition of bovines, the Anti-Corruption Bureau immediately ordered inquiry against the alleged negligence of the government officials on Friday. This incident has again raised question on cow protection and the irresponsible functioning of the government cowsheds across the country.
