New Delhi: Recently, researchers on board E/V Nautilus have spotted a big-eyed, bright purple, toy-like squid off the the California coast.

This weird yet adorable animal was found at a depth of nearly 3,000 feet. Known as Rossia pacifica or Stubby squid, belongs to the family of bobtail squid which is almost a mix between a squid and octopus.


This tiny, six centimeter long creature, was discovered with the help of remote-controlled roving vehicles that can explore the ocean floor. Researchers also used a number of high-quality cameras, connected to boat with optical fibers, to capture the brightly colored squid.
