Nagappa given police protection
Director General of Police C. Dinakar on Saturday dismissed rumours that Nagappa, the hostage who had escaped from brigand Veerappan`s clutches had been arrested.
Dinakar told the media that Nagappa was not in police custody, but had only been given police protection. “He is a free man,” he said.
Asked if Nagappa had told the police something more than he had revealed at his press conference on Friday, he said: “What he has revealed, is not worth revealing.”
Dinakar also admitted: “Information coming from Chennai is that whatever Nagappa has said is not true.”
Meanwhile, Home Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge said that Chief Minister S.M. Krishna had called an all-party meeting on Oct 3 to discuss the latest developments. He had also called a meeting of MPs from the State the same day. After these meetings, he would hold talks with his Tamil Nadu counterpart M. Karunanidhi.
