Five militants belonging to the Pakistan-backed Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and a policeman were among seven people killed in the Kashmir Valley on Monday, an official spokesman said. In a major encounter, security forces gunned down three Hizb militants at Theru village on the outskirts of Srinagar on Monday, he said. He said a civilian was also killed during the encounter which started when Jammu and Kashmir Police and Rashtriya Rifles jointly raided a house to flush out the hiding militants. Three AK assault rifles, a pistol, some ammunition and grenades were recovered from the slain militants, he said. Security forces shot dead two militants in Anantnag district in south Kashmir early on Monday, the spokesman said.
He said militants shot dead a special police officer in Baramulla district on Monday.
