Mapusa Elections 2017: BJP candidate wins

Mapusa: Assembly constituency number 5 is assigned to Mapusa Vidhan Sabha in the 40-seat Goa Legislative Assembly. 

Goa Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza of BJP is pitted here against Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) Sanjay Vithu Barde, Vijay Laxman Bhike (Congress), Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party's (MGP) Vinod Phadke, Goa Su-Raj Party (GSRP) Rameshwari Morajkar, Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Shraddha Khalap and independent Domnic Alphonso.

D'Souza, who had created a record of sorts in 2012 by winning the Mapusa seat by a margin of more than 10,000 votes, has indicated that this will probably be his last election.

However, D'Souza is likely to face a tough competition in the Assembly Elections 2017 since resentment against his party is palpable in the commercial town.

MGP has seen a resurgence in Mapusa and Phadke, who was perceived as a weak candidate, is even getting support from unexpected quarters, which observers say has surprised BJP supporters in the constituency. 

In this elections, D'Souza had to campaign in areas he hardly visited in 2012, say sources.

Mapusa election result 2017 will be declared along with other 4 states on March 11. 

In Mapusa Election Results 2012, Francis D'Souza was declared winner. The BJP veteran secured 14955 votes against his NCP rivals Ashish Shirodkar who bagged 4786 total votes. 

Both Francis D'Souza and Ashish Tulshidas Shirodkar have very good voter base in Mapusa. The vote margin between Francis D'Souza and Ashish Tulshidas Shirodkar in 2012 was 10169. 

In Mapusa election results 2007, Francis D'Souza  was elected as Member of Legislative Assembly. Francis D'Souza got 10104, whereas Subhash G Narvekar managed to secure 3258 votes.
