Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on Thursday will lay the foundation stone of India's first bullet train in Gujarat's Ahmedabad.

As the preparations to inaugurate the project are going on in full swing, we take a look some of the details we all must know before the inauguration of the project:

The high-speed train will run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai which is expected to be completed by 2022.

The train would cover the distance of over 500 km in around two hours.

According to the plan, 92 per cent of the route will be on elevated land, 6 per cent will be underground and only 2 per cent will be on the ground.

The government intends to complete the first leg on August 15, 2022. However, it may take as long as 2023 for the train to start.

The expenditure for the project is 1.08 lakh crores ($17 billion) and it will employ a total of 24,000 people, reports say.

Nearly 20,000 people will be temporarily involved while 4,000 people will get permanent employment through the project.

Japan is providing 81 percent of the funding for the 1.08-trillion-rupee ($16.9-billion) project, through a 50-year loan at 0.1 percent annual interest. Japan will recover the loan over a period of 50 years.

The high-speed train will pass through the country's longest tunnel of 21 km, of which seven km will be under the sea.

The train will have the capacity to carry 750 passengers.

It will make almost 70 Ahmedabad-Mumbai sorties.
