The woman was allegedly denied entry into the labour room by the officials of gynaecology department yesterday.

"The matter will be inquired by a committee in the department, headed by its head of department. I have already asked the HoD of the gynaecology department for inquiry", said superintendent of the medical college and hospital Khetrabasi Subudhi.

The woman had come for delivery and went to the labour room. But the doctor allegedly did not take her seriously and refused to admit her at that time. She, however, delivered a baby in the hospital premises in open space, said her mother Rubina Lima.

The women's wing of BJP demanded action against the concerned officials.

Action will be taken against the errant officials, if they are found guilty in the incident, Subudhi assured the delegation of the BJP's women wing.

"We are very much concerned over the woman giving birth outside of the indoor hall for not getting a bed in the labour room. It shows the condition of the health services in the state" said Babita Patra, general secretary, BJP's women wing in the state.

Ganjam district unit of the BJP, led by its president Kanhu Charan Pati also staged a dharna in front of the superintendent's office demanding action against the officials, who denied taking her inside the labour room.

After delivery, she was taken inside the labour room and given treatment.

Medical officials, however, rubbished the allegation of denial of entry into the labour room.
