Hyderabad: The Telangana Police on Wednesday registered a complaint of a woman who said she was divorced through a newspaper advertisement.

Police said that they would proceed further in the matter after ascertaining the facts and taking legal opinion.

Last evening, “we received a written complaint from Nazmin. She has complained that her husband Mustaquddin, who married her in January 2015 took her to Saudi Arabia. She gave birth to a child. They came to India in January 2017 along with their child. He left her in India and went back to Saudi Arabia. He then called her and told her that he would send her some papers through his advocate. She came to the police station and met the DCP also. We registered her complaint,” M Srinivas Rao, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mirchowk, told news agency ANI.

The complainant also alleged that her husband's brother molested her in Saudi Arabia, added the ACP.

Police later found out that some advertisement was given in Urdu daily 'Siyasat' newspaper on March 4 where Mustaquddin had given divorce to his wife.

"In her complaint, she didn't tell that she had been divorced. We came to know this later. We need to see if that news is genuine or not," the ACP further said.

After a series of instances of talaq via WhatsApp, e-mail, this came as another shocker where a man divorced his wife through an advertisement published in a newspaper.
