New Delhi: Pakistan’s former National Security Advisor General Mahmud Ali Durrani on Monday said the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack was a handiwork of a terror group based in Pakistan.

While making the sensational claim, Durrain termed the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks as a classic trans-border terrorist event.

""Today terrorism is a serious global threat and needs to be defeated by well considered strategy, both national, regional and international levels. The terrorist attack in Mumbai carried out be terrorist who are based in Pakistan on 26 November 2008 is a classic trans-border terrorism event. I hate to admit this, but is true," he said.

He was speaking at the 19th Asian Security Conference being held here at the Institute of Defence and Studies and Analyses.

The theme of the conference this year is "Combating Terrorism: Evolving an Asian Response".

On November 26, 2008, ten Pakistani terrorists arrived by sea route and opened fire indiscriminately at people killing 166, including 18 security personnel, and injuring several others, besides damaging property worth crores.

The attack had begun on November 26 and lasted until November 29. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Oberoi Trident, the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower, Leopold Cafe, Cama Hospital, the Jewish community centre were some of the places targeted by the terrorists

Ajmal Kasab was the lone militant who was captured alive

He was hanged four years later on November 21, 2012

Earlier speaking at the event, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar called on Asian countries for action against terrorism, describing it as the "most pervasive and serious threat".

"Terrorism remains the most pervasive and serious challenge to global security while threat of terror is transnational. The response doesn't seem so," Parrikar said.
