New Delhi: As many as seven people have been killed including the Commanding Officer of an Assam Rifles unit when his convoy was attacked by the militants in the Singhat sub-division of Manipur's Churachandpur district on Saturday (November 13, 2021). Commanding Officer Col Viplav Tripathi's wife, minor son, and four other personnel have also lost their lives.

"A convoy of Assam Rifles was ambushed by insurgents in Thinghat, Manipur on November 13 at 1100 hrs. DG and all ranks of Assam Rifles offer condolences to the brave soldiers and families of the deceased," the official statement by HQ, DG Assam Rifles, read.


 


Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed that the cowardly attack is 'extremely painful and condemnable' and has said that the perpetrators will be brought to justice soon.


Taking to Twitter, Singh said, "The cowardly attack on an Assam Rifles convoy in Churachandpur, Manipur is extremely painful & condemnable. The nation has lost 5 brave soldiers including CO 46 AR and two family members. My condolences to the bereaved families. The perpetrators will be brought to justice soon."



Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh has also condemned the attack.


"Strongly condemn the cowardly attack on a convoy of 46 AR which has reportedly killed few personnel including the CO & his family at CCpur today. The State forces & Para military are already on their job to track down the militants. The perpetrators will be brought to justice," Singh tweeted.
