New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) on Tuesday (November 2, 2021) retained the Kusheshwar Asthan and Tarapur assembly seats after defeating Lalu Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
JD(U)'s Aman Bhushan Hazari, the death of whose father had necessitated the by-election in Kusheshwar Asthan, polled nearly 60,000 votes, while RJD candidate Ganesh Bharti secured 47,192 votes.
In Tarapur, JD(U) candidate Rajiv Kumar Singh defeated his nearest rival of the RJD, Arun Kumar Sah, by a slender margin of fewer than 4,000 votes. Singh received 78,966 votes as against 75,145 of Sah. Tarapur fell vacant following the death of JD(U) MLA Mewa Lal Chaudhary.
