'BJP never indulged in polarising politics; secular parties need to be cautious now'

New Delhi: Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said the BJP never indulged in polarizing politics and said politics should shun religion, caste and creed.

The comment came a day after the Supreme Court prohibited all political parties and candidates from seeking votes in the name of religion, caste and language.

Rajnath Singh said "secular" parties need to be cautious now.

"We agree with the SC order. Religion and caste based politics should not be done. So-called secular parties should be cautious after the order," he said.

Asked if the Bharatiya Janata Party will raise the issue of Ram temple in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections, he said the matter was sub-judice and that the BJP never indulged in polarizing politics,

"The BJP neither did politics of polarization nor will it do in future. Politics should not be done on the lines of religion and caste. It should be only in the name of humanity and justice," he said.
