Under construction metro pillar collapses in Karnataka`s Bengaluru, 2 dead
Under construction, metro pillar collapsed in Bengaluru and a mother and her two-and-a-half-old son were crushed to death in the incident.
New Delhi: An under-construction metro pillar collapsed near Nagavara of the outer ring road in Karnataka's Bengaluru on Tuesday (January 10). A woman and her daughter were crushed to death in the tragic incident. 28-year-old mother Tejasvini and her two-and-a-half-old son died after they were crushed under the pillar as it fell on them when they were passing by it.
The woman was travelling with her toddler, daughter, and her husband on a bike when the incident happened. While the woman and her two-and-a-half-old son succumbed to their injuries in hospital, her husband and daughter have been hospitalised with injuries.
Talking to ANI, Bheemashankar S Guled, DCP East Bengaluru said, "This morning around 10:45 am, when the couple along with their twin children were travelling towards Hebbal when the metro pillar collapsed on the bike. The mother, Tejaswini and son Vihaan were seriously injured and shifted to Altis Hospital where both of them succumbed to their injuries. "Forensic experts are at the incident site and are investigating the DCP said.
The collapse affected the movement of traffic in the area. People were seen trying to move the fallen pillar to ease traffic flow.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar blamed the government for the Bengaluru Metro pillar collapse and said "This is the result of the '40% commission' government. There is no quality in development works."
