China is known for its petty symbolic moves against India. This time, the Dragon is using the stage of the Winter Olympics to humiliate India - by honouring its coward soldier who killed Indian jawans during the Galwan battle.
In today's DNA, Zee News Editor-In-Chief Sudhir Chaudhary analyses China's petty move to honour PLA commander Chi Fabao - involved in Galwan clashes - that left many Indian soldiers martyred.
Chi Fabao is neither a celebrity, nor a messenger of peace. Despite his connection with sports, he has been fostered upon the responsibility to carry the torch for Winter Olympics in China.
The question is - why and how?
The move clearly shows China's frustration over the 40 casualties it suffered during the Galwan clash.
An article published in China's state-owned journal Global Times hails Chi Fabao as the "Hero of Galwan". "Galwan Valley border clash hero becomes Beijing 2022 torch relay torchbearer," reads the headline of the article.
In most of the countries, sports fraternity veterans are chosen as the torch-bearers for Olympic games. These are the players who have won multiple medals and have records registered in their names. However, China didn't choose any such person, instead, it used the stage to humiliate India.
This isn't the first time that China has used this soldier's name to poke India. In February 2021, China had for the first time accepted that it lost four soldiers in Galwan. At that time, China had honoured this soldier with the title of "Hero Regimental Commander for Defending the Border".
China's real motive behind honouring Chi Fabao, it seems, is to attract its citizen towards pseudo-nationalism - as a matter of fact - China has the largest Army in world, but its soldiers lack courage.
