The EC said it took the decision on the basis of inputs, representations, past precedent, logistics, ground situations and "all facts and circumstances in the matter".
The development comes after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra visited Manipur on Tuesday to review the preparedness ahead of the two-phase election. He had said that the poll panel had zero tolerance towards misuse of government machinery and abuse of money power as he took stock of the situation in Imphal.
The EC team had also met delegates of All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO), who urged the poll panel to change the first date of the election citing Sunday mass.
Chandra had assured to take up the matter for consideration when the team goes back to Delhi.
Earlier, the EC had rescheduled the date of the Punjab Assembly election from February 14 to February 20 following demands of the state government and various political parties.
Counting of votes will take place on March 10 for the five states-- Manipur, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Uttarakhand-- going to polls.
