Mumbai: An explosion rocked a chemical factory at Boisar of Palghar district in Maharashtra killing six and injuring several. The blast took place at 7.20 pm on Saturday (January 11) ripping through the Tarapur Industrial Area after fault number F-2 exploded at Tara Nitrate chemical factory.
Fire tenders have been pressed into service. Police and local administration too have arrived at the spot.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the family members of the deceased. The government will bear the entire cost of treatment for the injured.
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari took to Twitter to convey his condolences to the kin of victims. "Was deeply saddened to know about the unfortunate death of workers in a massive blast in a chemical factory in Tarapur Industrial Area. Convey my deepest condolences to the next of kin of the deceased and pray for a speedy recovery to the injured," Koshyari tweeted.
The explosion is said to be was so severe that it was heard within a 15 km radius.
