Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh): Kanpur, a prominent division of Uttar Pradesh, the most populous region, boasting a population of around 1.29 crores is all set to exercise their rights to choose their new legislatives in the third phase of the Assembly Elections.

With the three major parties i.e.: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the ruling Samajwadi Party in alliance with the Congress trying their luck to garner maximum percentage of votes in the region, the road is yet not easy for them.

Comprising of 27 assembly seats, spread over six districts of Uttar Pradesh this division witnesses a strong foot hold of the ruling Samajwadi Party.Samajwadi Party won 21 out of 27 seats in the last Assembly Election, while the BJP managed to bag four followed by BSP and Congress which grabbed one-one seat each.

Where on one hand the Samajwadi Party who has been winning the election from Kannauj consecutively from past three elections has fielded its sitting MLA Anil Kumar Dohare, BJP has nominated Banwari Lal Dohare while Anurag Singh has been nominated by BSP.

Etawah, the pocket borough constituency of the ruling Samajwadi party is fielding Kuldeep Gupta, Narendra Nath Chaturvedi alias Ballu Choudhris has been nominated by BSP from here.

But in this election there are number of factors which will determine the voting pattern in the state.Key issues:. Once known as the Manchester of the East, for bustling industries is not struggling to either survive or are shifting base to better locations.

Once contributing the maximum amount of tax being paid in the state has now left lakhs of labour workforce in a dilemma.. As per reports, including big and small there are nearly 390 slums in the city, where the people are still deprive of basic necessities.

Apart from this, better irrigation facility is very much required in Kanpur rural and Auriah region where the primary source of income is agriculture.. Proper drainage system is also needed.Caste system.

The cast factor greatly influences the voting pattern in this region. This region of Uttar Pradesh is highly dominated by the upper caste. Brahims, Thakurs and Yadav`s making upto 35 percent of the total population followed by Dailts consisting 21 percent and Muslim which makes up to 10 percent of the total population.Areas of Conflict.

All the three major parties have nominated their best candidates and trying their best to garner maximum amount of votes. But yet there are few areas of conflict within the parties which can affect the share of voting in the region.

The members of the parties are still not very convinced with Samajwadi Party`s alliance with the Congress. The parties have nominated less effective candidate from certain crucial seats.

This Assembly Election is a time of test for the BJP Government as large section of farmers cultivating wheat, paddy, pulses and leather industry were affected from the demonetisation and the outcome of this bold step taken by the Centre will be revealed in the upcoming assembly election.

The BSP led by Mayawati has a strong foot hold among the Dalits but is less influential on other sections. Apart from this change of candidates in the last moment may prove to be harmful for the party.Amid of all these issues, it would be interesting to observe that which party would gain the maximum support from the people.

And how many issues would be addressed by the parties after the election. Will the ruling party be able to gather the support of the people? Or the opposition will gain the trust of the people.

The voting in this division is scheduled to be held on February 19 and the result would be announced on March 11.
