There has been no incidence of violence after sentencing of Dera chief, says Haryana Police

New Delhi: The Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who was held guilty on charges of rape of a female devotee in 1999, was on Monday sentenced to ten years of imprisonment by the Special CBI Court of Panchkula

Necessary security arrangements were made for the sitting of a CBI Court in Sunaria District Jail, Rohtak for the pronouncement of quantum of sentence against Ram Rahim Singh.

Earlier on Friday, CBI judge Jagdeep Singh held the 50-year-old Dera chief guilty of rape in the case that was registered on the basis of an anonymous written complaint in 2002 that he had sexually exploited two female disciples.

He said both sentences will run consecutively for a total of 20 years in jail for the Dera chief.

Singh also fined him Rs 15 lakh in each of the two cases, of which Rs 14 lakh each would go to the two victims who were part of his sect.

CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh pronounced two sentences of 10 years rigorous imprisonment in each of the two cases that date back to 2002, said defence lawyer SK Garg Narwana.
