Cauvery water row Live: SC gives more water to Karnataka, Tamil Nadu calls it a setback

The SC said that an increase in the share of Cauvery water for Karnataka has been done keeping in view the fact that there is an increased demand of drinking water by Bengaluru and also for many industrial activities.

In a big relief for Karnataka, the Supreme Court on Friday allowed additional 14.75 TMC Cauvery water for the state. The court said that the decision has been taken keeping in mind the shortage of drinking water in Bengaluru. However, the SC has also announced that Tamil Nadu can draw additional 10 TMC 'groundwater' from the total of 20 TMC from beneath the Cauvery basin.
