Maharashtra Rain Highlights: The Indian Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Maharashtra on Thursday and has predicted extremely heavy rainfall across the state.

Heavy rains lashed several parts of the country with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for Gujarat and Maharashtra. An orange alert has been issued to Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, and Goa. In Maharashtra, the situation has been grim. Overflowing lakes and severe waterlogging have thrown the city's daily life out of gear, while Pune has witnessed at least three deaths following electrocution while a landslide claimed the life of one. In several areas of Maharashtra, colleges and schools have declared holidays.

Mumbai Rain: Air Travel Disrupted

On Thursday, heavy rains in Mumbai led to the cancellation of 11 flights and the diversion of 10 others to nearby airports, PTI reported.

Runway operations at Mumbai airport were halted twice due to visibility dropping to 300 meters. Airlines advised passengers to arrive early because of traffic congestion and water-logging in parts of the city.

Mumbai Rain: Loco Pilots Decrease Speed Of Trains

Central Railways' Chief Public Relations Officer, Swapnil Dhanraj Nila, reported that heavy rainfall is significantly impacting train services. He explained that reduced visibility from rain and wind forces loco pilots to lower train speeds, which affects punctuality. Nila added that the municipal corporations, KDMC, and MCGA have issued warnings advising the public to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary due to the red alert.
