New Delhi: The Congress will move a no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, and the discussion on it was initiated by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi. Gogoi said that the Opposition has brought this motion for Manipur. He also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence over the Manipur clashes.

Defending the government, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey attacked the opposition parties for bringing a no-confidence motion against the government, saying this is a no-trust vote against a “son of a poor man” who worked for the people’s welfare. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that this is not a no-confidence motion against the government but it is a test of confidence of the opposition’s own alliance partners. He mocked the opposition parties, saying they were fighting with each other and call themselves INDIA.

He also took a jibe at Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, who were both in the House, and said she was following the Indian tradition of “Bete ko set karna hai, damaad ko bhent karna hai (Has to set her son, and gift to her son-in-law)”. He also made fun of Rahul Gandhi, saying that he was supposed to start the debate but did not do so at the last moment as “maybe he woke up late”.

The debate on the no-confidence motion is likely to go on for the next two days, that is, August 9 and 10. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to respond to the debate on the motion on August 10.

The government has a comfortable majority in its favour and the opposition is expected to use this opportunity to show its newly strengthened unity to take on the Modi-led BJP in the Lok Sabha elections next year.
