Trump's sweeping performance in key swing states, including Georgia and North Carolina, paved the way for his win, with him also leading in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nevada.

The highly polarised election, marked by two assassination attempts on Trump, saw his rival, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, garner 226 electoral votes.

This victory makes Trump the second Republican president to win a second term in two decades, following George W. Bush, who served from 2001 to 2009.

On the eve of the election, candidates wrapped up their final campaign events in pivotal battleground states. Vice President Kamala Harris concluded her 107-day campaign with a rally in Pennsylvania, while former President Donald Trump held his final address in Michigan. Beyond the choice between Trump and Harris, voters are also casting ballots on major issues, including abortion rights, congressional races, marijuana legalization, and various voting referendums.
