Thane: A massive fire engulfed an oil compound in Bhiwandi's Gundavali late on Sunday night. As many as six fire tenders were pressed into action shortly after the initial blaze was spotted.
The fire broke out in an oil godown at Ganesh Compound and the blaze quickly engulfed a large area and entrapped almost every building in the vicinity. Six fire tenders were rushed to bring the fire under control but news agency ANI quoted fire officials as saying that such is the scale that complete control over the blaze is unlikely before Monday evening.
The area has been cordoned off and there are no reports of any casualties yet.
PTI adds:
The fire broke out around 12.15 am in one of the godowns and spread rapidly to the other warehouses in the vicinity in Gundavali village, an official at the fire control room in Bhiwandi taluka said. Several oil drums and rubber tyres of various companies kept in the godowns aggravated the blaze, he said. The cause of the fire is still being ascertained.
